OMG Oh My God! review

When a film – or at least its voluble protagonist – questions the very existence of God, should its makers expect any divine help when it is stuck in a morass of mediocrity?

Mercifully, OMG Oh My God!, for all its flaws, has the services of the redoubtable Paresh Rawal to fall back on. The thespian pulls off a rescue act that borders on the miraculous.

North Korea Gossip: Gulag Closes, Kim’s Aunt Sick?

This was the week North Korea watchers thought Kim Jong Eun would show that he’s up to more than just visiting amusement parks and military bases. Instead of a groundbreaking (or even mildly interesting) meeting of the Supreme People’s Assembly, a flurry of intriguing reports and rumors have emerged from Pyongyang this week, including the closure of one of its hideous gulags.

Ryder Cup: What to Expect on Saturday

Davis Love III, the U.S. Ryder Cup captain, had emphasized before this week’s biennial matches that he wanted his team to stay relaxed and have fun. On Friday afternoon, that happened. After fighting Europe to a 2-2 draw in the morning foursomes, or alternate-shot rounds, the U.S. team blew out of the gates for the afternoon four-ball matches like Usain Bolt.

Ind vs Aus T20 World Cup Live Blog; Live cricket scores and commentary

At times, two innings of a Twenty20 match can appear as though they were played on two different continents.

So it was on Friday, when India's batting appeared to have taken place on a slow and low R Premadasa Stadium deck while Australia's openeRs  seemed to bat on a flat, even-paced one at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Shane Watson (72 off 42 balls) registered yet another half-century - to go with his three-wicket haul - and David Warner made an unbeaten 63 off 41 balls as Australia crushed India by nine wickets with 31 balls to spare in their opening Super Eights game here.

Review: Rebel is for the masses

Radhika Rajamani says Rebel has the regular masala which will be enjoyed by the mass audience.

When the Telugu film Rebel begins, one gets the impression that it's going to be an action film. But as the film progresses, it turns into a revenge drama like so many others.

Working with hardly any storyline, director Raghava Lawrence had made a film that is arduous to watch.

Liam Hemsworth Wants Miley Cyrus to Quit Twitter?

Miley Cyrus got the rumor mill going a few weeks ago with a series of sad posts on Twitter. Immediately, the Internet was abuzz with gossip that there was trouble between Miley and fiancé Liam Hemsworth.
On Sept. 13, the actress tweeted, “Thought of the day: maybe it's not that they love you less, they just love you the most they are capable of loving.” After fans got concerned, she followed up with “& no there is not trouble in paradise.... just thoughts.”

Ryder Cup Match 6: Mickelson/Bradley defeat McIlroy and McDowell

Phil Mickelson has hit a few career-defining shots on his resume. There's the the putt on the 18th hole to win his first green jacket; the are-you-kidding-me shot from the pine straw on the 13th hole at the 2010 Masters; and the flop shot from the deep rough that secured the 2005 PGA Championship at Baltusrol.

Europe’s Austerity Madness

So much for complacency. Just a few days ago, the conventional wisdom was that Europe finally had things under control. The European Central Bank, by promising to buy the bonds of troubled governments if necessary, had soothed markets. All that debtor nations had to do, the story went, was agree to more and deeper austerity — the condition for central bank loans — and all would be well.

Arrest of Google Brazil head stirs debate over Web

The arrest of a top Google executive is reviving a debate about Brazilian laws that hold services such as YouTube responsible for the videos posted on them, making the country a hotbed of attempts to stifle digital content.
Legal experts said Thursday that Google violated a judge's order to take down videos on its YouTube subsidiary that target Brazilian political candidates and that the judge was completely within the law in issuing the arrest warrant.
But they said the arrest of Fabio Jose Silva Coelho, the head of Google Inc.'s Brazil operations, underscores the need to modernize laws that treat offensive material on the Internet like material that is carried by newspapers, television and radio, holding platforms such as Google responsible for user-provided content.

Now That Was a Cricket Match

Say what you like, Test cricket purists, against the brash young upstart that is Twenty20 cricket, but I dare you to argue that the first round of the Super Eights stage at the ICC World T20 wasn’t an absolute thriller.
The first match, between host Sri Lanka and New Zealand, was a particular gem. It was so close that it had to be decided in a “super over” as the scores were tied at 174 from the allotted 20 overs – only the second draw in World T20 history after the one between India and Pakistan in Durban in 2007, which was decided on a bowl-out (India won.) The super over is cricket’s equivalent of a penalty shoot-out in soccer, and just as nail-biting.

Man behind anti-Muslim film ordered jailed

LOS ANGELES A federal judge on Thursday ordered the man behind a crudely produced anti-Islamic video that inflamed parts of the Middle East to be detained because he is a flight risk.
Citing a lengthy pattern of deception, U.S. Central District Chief Magistrate Judge Suzanne Segal said Nakoula Basseley Nakoula should be held after officials said he violated his probation from a 2010 check fraud conviction.
"The court has a lack of trust in this defendant at this time," Segal said.
